The first and second days of this trip were quite challenging, as it rained for their entirety. On the first day I left from my home in Amherst, MA, drove for 7+ hours in heavy rain, and arrived in Winchester, VA at 10:00PM. After hitting Chipotle, and a quick workout at Planet Fitness, I made camp in the parking lot for my first official night on the road.

Day two brought me to Shenandoah National Park where I picked up my AMERICA THE BEAUTIFUL parks pass. Conditions in the park were sub-optimal with consistent rain, heavy fog, and balmy temps of 45 degrees. Despite these conditions, I managed to get in a quick hike on Bearfence Mountain and snap a couple photos along Skyline Drive. I also met a super cool couple from Oregon who’ve been driving around the country for over a month Later that evening the weather cleared up, and I made camp in George Washington National Forest where I spent my first night in the woods (much better than the parking lot).

Day three was another 6 hours of driving with the goal of reaching my buddy Brian’s camp in Ocoee TN. This day was sunny and warm, a nice change from the prior days. After packing up camp at George Washington National Forest I made a pit stop in town to hit Planet Fitness and grab some groceries. While at a rest stop, I met a super nice couple from Louisiana who had just driven to New England in their Winnebago Sprinter van (I’m super jealous). I made it to Brian’s camp at 7:00PM where I was treated to some kebabs and rice (thank you bro!).
